- Summary: We got trouble! Right here in River City!
- Keywords: ICD MiNT LaserC
-
- I just spent an unpleasant two days trying to fix my hard drive after it
- decided to go south. The story: playing with MiNT .95, running ICD 6.0.7
- hard disk software. There's QuickST in the system, and that's it. I run
- Laser C (I use it as an editor), which hangs. No keyboard reset, the machine
- is gonzo down. I hit the reset switch, I get a BLACK SCREEN, then SuperBoot
- pops up, I continue, MiNT does not run and hangs the machine. And that's
- all she wrote, folks! My drive no longer boots. Can't recognize it when
- I run ICDBOOT from floppy. None of the utility programs I have even recognize
- that I had partitions on the thing.
-
- Finally, I discover: the first 10 sectors of the drive are history.
- I get 6 bytes of 0a, then the rest is padded with 08. To abbreviate:
- only drive C was yonkered, I had to fill in partition information manually,
- and I had to recopy the 2nd fat on drive C to where the 1st should have
- been. CHKDSK tells me I have a few doubly-linked clusters now, and I recovered
- about 18 lost clusters, but I can live with that.
-
- But I really really really don't want this to happen again. Does
- anyone have a CLUE why this might have happened? I'm not running MiNT until
- I can lay the blame at someone's feet. Thankx for your response.
