- You are totally uninformed. Let's get one thing straight: you cannot
- just make random stuff up to win the argument. That's called "fabricating
- data," and it's cheating. So cut it out.
-
- Those of us who OWN 80x86 machines know that you don't "void the
- warranty" when you open the case. That is an ATARI concept. I got my
- machine from Gateway 2000, and not only do I not "void the warranty" by
- putting in a card, but they'll actually COME TO MY HOUSE to INSTALL MY
- CARDS FOR ME if I'm too much of a loser to do it myself. This on-site
- service came with my 486 machine for free. It's called ... end user
- support. Imagine (snicker) Atari doing that.
-
- As for hassles, sometimes it's a pain getting the IRQ and interrupt
- numbers right, but it never takes as long as it would to SOLDER
- SOMETHING INTO YOUR ST OR FALCON, and it certainly doesn't require any
- engineering experience. It's truly amazing that you'll even TRY to
- claim that these two activities are similar in difficulty.
-
- Another word about user support: The Maxtor hard drive in my PC
- went bad a few months after I first got my system. (BTW, it was
- a SCSI drive you could attach to your ST, so don't bother trying
- to blame the failure on the Evil MS-DOS world, OK?) Anyway,
- I called Gateway and they (get this) *sent me a new one that day.*
- I just had to take the old one out and swap in the new one, then
- send the old one back. Free. Under warranty. AND I HAD OPENED
- THE CASE BEFORE!
-
- See, that's the kind of user support that people in the Real World
- expect these days. On-site service, a tech support line where people
- actually answer, good trade-up and return policies. Atari has never
- done any of that; they seem to be incapable of it. That's one reason I
- think Atari should make game consoles instead of home computers.

- Ooo boy. I can feel the universe warping around you.
