- There is no way to disable the new AA [AGA] functions in the 1200. Software
- that changes the wrong bit in the bitplane control registers can still cause
- problems. It's ironic, though, that Commodore threatens never to release
- another hardware manual, though. They want people to program "cleanly" but
- this be counterproductive.
-
- The Falcon is a nice machine and I intend to get one, whether or not Atari
- is around at the time. I know a considerable amount about the standard
- ST and standard Amiga hardware and if the 1200 is 2 steps forward for the
- Amiga 500, then the Falcon is 10 steps for the Atari 520ST. There is a
- clear advantage that the Falcon has the DSP as standard hardware in that
- the DSP is a fully programmable processor in itself, fully capable of
- running it's own software like the 68030, but being able to do many things
- much faster than the 68030 ever could. It is hard to say at this point,
- but I would assume that one could find several applications in which the
- Falcon would perform 3 or 4 times faster than the A1200.
