  13. I won't repeat everything that's been written so far about using the 
  14. TT's internal floppy drive with Spectre GCR, but there is this notion
  15. going around that you can't use 800K Mac floppies on a TT/Spectre. I
  16. would like to dispell that notion. :)

  18. I use floppy disks with Spectre 3.0 on my TT, all the time. But 
  19. before I can do that, I have to perform a little voodoo, as follows:

  21. 1. Turn off CPU cache.
  22. 2. From the Atari desktop, format a *double density* floppy.
  23. 3. Launch Spectre.
  24.  
  25. After that, I can read, write and format GCR disks without problems.
  26. This works _every time_ on my TT, and at least one other that I know of.

  28. The main disadvantage of this trick is that you have to wait for a 
  29. whole floppy to format before you can use Spectre. So, I wrote a little
  30. brain-dead hack that formats just one sector on each side of a floppy. 
  31. If I run this program, instead of step 2 above, everything still works
  32. fine under Spectre.

  34. I give you this trick to try out, but since I don't know why it
  35. works, I can't guarantee anything.
