- Pete,
-
- If you have a modem connected to your 1200XL, you could use Kermit-65
- to transfer files from your Sparc to your computer.
-
- I finally found an ARCing utility that I successfully compiled on
- our Sparcs in the EE department.. funny, the NeXT machines choke on the
- same set of code.. some compatibility! Anyway, that way, you could
- FTP directly to atari.archive.umich.edu, use binary mode to get the stuff,
- and de-arc it on your sparc to look at it if you want. THen, uuencode
- the arced file, and use Kermit-65 to transfer it to your 8 bit computer.
- Then you uudecode it and use SuperUnarc from Bob Puff, and you're ready
- to go.
-
- Of course, this all assumes you have a modem.
-
- If not, there are programs that will write true double density Atari disks
- on an IBM PC compatible. You would need a true double density drive
- though. Stock 1050's only do single or 1 1/2 density.
-
- By the way, folks. If you have trouble getting hooked up to
- atari.archive.umich.edu.. you can also try wuarchive.wustl.edu,
- in mirrors/atari.archive.umich/atari/8bit/ as it is the same stuff.
- I think maybe atari archive tells you this when you try to connect
- for anonymous FTP and there are already too many users.
- Bart seems to be working again, which is good news if you don't have
- FTP access.
