  13. I have not been following the Apple II scene for about 4 years now,
  14. so please bear with my stupidity and/or naivity in that domain.

  16. In 10 months I'll have to spend a full 10 months in the South of
  17. France, where I have an Apple II GS. What I'd like is to use the
  18. IIgs for keeping in touch with international email networks
  19. and usenet news. I am computer litterate enough to do that
  20. using my PC here in UK, but for personal reasons I am not
  21. willing to take the PC down to France.

  23. The problem is that my IIgs is still in the same state as 4 years ago.
  24. In fact, it's in the same state as 6 years ago. I used to be pretty
  25. litterate with my good ol' ][+ and the IIgs inherited most of the
  26. peripherals from the ][+.

  28. So here is the hardware description: (nostalgic corner)
  29.  
  30. - Apple IIgs, 512k RAM (that includes a near-empty memory card)
  31. - 2 x Disk ][  5.25 in floppy drives
  32. - mouse
  33. - CP/M card  (only works at the slower speed)
  34. - B/W monitor
  35. - Colour monitor
  36. - Silentype Printer (yes, the thermal paper one !!!)
  37. - 256k additional RAM card (only works for a few applications)
  38. - ROM revision 1

  40. Note the lack of 3.5 inch drive.

  42. So now the question is:

  44. -> what additional hardware do I require to be able to use the IIgs
  45. as either:
  46.  
  47. - full connection to Internet host server running PPP or SLIP
  48. - uucp connection
  49. - any other way possible
  50.  
  51. The connection in each case would be dialup, downloading & uploading
  52. information in a restricted amount of time.
  53.  
  54. Most important: How much would it cost me to acquire all this hardware.
  55. ie: price of RAM, 3.5 floppy, cheapo' modem, etc. 2nd hand (or even 3rd ;)).
