- Supposedly it is one of those "urban myths and legends", although the
- advertisers DID attempt the idea and promoted its value to drum up clients.
- Any laws deeming the practice to be illegal were done so out of FEAR of
- something that was not completely understood. And we all know that lawmakers
- tend to bend under the pressure they receive from the lobbyists, rather than
- common sense. (Just because there is a law against something, doesn't mean
- it makes any sense, or that any actual study was done - kinda like the witch
- trials of the 1600's)
-
- The ads weren't "sub" "liminal" messages. They can be perceived if you
- look for them. Sub-liminal means "below the threshold of perception". If you
- can perceive it, it's not subliminal, and if it's subliminal it can't be
- perceived so it can't POSSIBLY work.
-
- Much has been written about this. The Center for the Scientific Investigation
- of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP) have reviewed the claims in the "Skeptical
- Inquirer". I have read other WHOLE BOOKS on the subject. Much controversy.
-
- But, like anything else, if you BELIEVE it will work, then it will. If you
- don't, then there is no way in H*ll it will have any effect on you.
-
- BTW, I have a few so-called subliminal cassettes and a video. The music and
- background waves and picturesque photography are well worth their RELAXING
- qualities.
-
- But I'm *STILL* fat...
-
- Draw your own conclusions...
