- Actually, most dongles use an R-C time constant which they attempt to measure
- via software. That's why they have a nasty habit of dying every time we make
- a faster system.
-
- Machines IDs aren't likely to be stored in a PAL or FPGA. First off, they're
- too expensive, secondly, who's going to hang around and write a different
- program for each one. If there was a machine ID, we'd do it the same way
- everyone else does, with a machine ID chip. These are little guys from
- companies like Dallas Semiconductor and other "weird-chip" companies, usually
- 3 or 4 pins. You can read out a serial ID somewhere in the 32-64 bit range,
- and of course one one comes pre-programmed a unique ID.
