  15. I'm having a problem finding an IBM compatible machine which will accept
  16. my DD (Double Density) floppies. All the I've seen PC's seem to have the HD 
  17. (High Density) drive as standard. I would really like to use the Amiga 
  18. CrossDOS facility for transferring work from the PC's at my university to my 
  19. A1200 at home.

  21. I would like to know what others have done out there (do not reply "I found
  22. a PC with a DD drive"). For example, is it possible to buy an Amiga-dedicated
  23. HD drive to connect to the external disk port? If so, how much? 
  24. Of course, a new device handler/driver would probably be need to handle it, so
  25. that the Amiga can take full advantage of 1.44Mb disk capacity.

  27. Am I in too far over my head here? Sorry. I'm five days new to the Amiga world.

  29. Oh, and one gripe with CBM. I can't understand why the latter has refused to 
  30. include as standard the AmigaDOS and Arexx manuals into the A1200 package. It's
  31. all very nice playing with workbench (move a file here or there and manipulate)
  32. and seeing what the machine is capable of through other people's work (demos,
  33. games, utilities and application packages), but at the end of the day I want to
  34. be able to do something for myself (be it just to display an empty window at
  35. some position on the screen).
  36. The A1200, I believe, is capable of a lot from the programmer's point of view.
  37. Making the AmigaDOS and Arexx manuals optional means that many users (USER
  38. definitely suffices as the correct word here) are unaware of the potential of
  39. their beast.
  40. At the moment, I'm having to borrow a manual (AmigoDOS1.3) from an A500 owner
  41. to find out what I can do with AmigaDOS3! Obviously, I am going to have to buy
  42. an AmigaDOS3 manual to know what new commands are still going untapped. Oh!
  43. I also borrowed "The Very First" disk from him. A very competent demonstration 
  44. for any novice who is completely new to the world of computers. The mentioned
  45. disk explains mouse movement, buttons, windows, menus and the shell. The
  46. interaction here is far more beneficial to the user than reading about the
  47. various features in the workbench manual. Where's the corresponding disk for
  48. A1200 owners. What happened to the "say" utility/speak handler (even if it was
  49. a bit naff)? A friend told me that Arexx was lurking on the Extras disk for 
  50. Workbench 1.3/2.0 owners with no mention to it. Doesn't Commodore want users
  51. to USE, MAXIMISE the knowledge of their computers?
