- I just bought a factory built A1200HD/40 from a local dealer friend of
- mine who just got them in stock.. It was an impulse buy for my home
- use. I also bought an MBX1200 from Microbotics, now I have a 16 MHz
- 68881 FPU in it.. I can put an A4000 type simm in it (of the 2-8MB
- Variety).
-
- The nice thing about this unit is that I can replace the 881 with an
- 882 or clock a higher speed fpu (of either type) with a separate
- crystal. It also had SIMM ram expansion capability. The 40 MB Seagate
- that came installed is nice and fast... I want a bigger drive at some
- point soon however.. The Microbotics card autoconfigs and sysinfo even
- knows who makes it..

- I could never hold out for this... The need for SCSI is much over-rated
- expect for the need of a tape backup in this level of inexpensive Amiga
- power.. The 030 won't have much advantage speed-wise aft I put in the
- new FPU (faster) and a SIMM in it.. I am saving the PCMCIA port for a
- Ethernet card.. If anyone knows of any of these peripheral cards out
- for the PC, please let me know.. I would love to get onto writing a
- driver to support this..
-
- The A1200HD is a more solid unit than the OLD 500 was and better built
- from the ground up.. Bravo Commodore!!
-
- My only distress is that PROMOTION is not a BOOT SCREEN option (one that
- you get when you hold both buttons down.. This way I could play my
- favorite Sygnosis games on my VGA ONLY (29.2 and above) monitor.. It
- would also mean that programs that don't properly open screens, such
- as ScalaMM200 would display anims properly instead of garbage. This is
- true even with utilities such as DoubleX running... It's funny because
- every screen but the ANIM playing portions work fine..
