- I don't know about wasting money. Any attempts to leave the world of
- Amiga OS version 1.anything is money well spent. Just play around with 2.1
- for a while. Start using more and more of your utility programs and
- try some more public domain things for a while, I assure you, that you will
- never want to go back. If you are interested in games, most of the newer
- games I've played that seem to be the most system friendly run a good deal
- faster with 2.x ROMS installed. I happen to have the pleasure of playing a few
- with both 1.3 and 2.0 as I made the switch so I could see the difference.
- Basically, you will need to play around with your preferences and the
- screen mode until you get the amount of ram you like. When you have about
- 3 megs of total ram or more in your system, the 16 color workbench shouldn't
- cause you much problems. The reason, the new ROMS make much better use of
- fast ram and less use of chip ram (The more fast ram you have available).
- It works much better than the fast ram first used to.
-
- That's all I can tell you. I still have my system set up for 512K chip
- so you shouldn't have much more trouble in finding the solution there.
-

- P.S. --- THere are a whole lot more reasons to like the new Workbench than
- mentioned, there are so many more things you can do with it so everybody
- finds different ways to like it. It could be AREXX, it could be better
- expansion support, it could be better requesters, it could be that people
- are starting to leave the 1.x ROMs in the cold when it comes to some future
- PD development, perhaps to spread to commercial; and the fact that the
- coding routines for 2.0 and greater systems are so much better, they make the
- previous look tedious, long, and rather a bit uglier. If you want to learn
- about all the cool things 2.0 and greater offer you in that direction, I would
- advise you to look at the 3rd edition of the RKMS Amiga ROM Kernal Manuals
- in the black cover booklets for more info.
