- I recently purchased (after a lot of hassle) an IDE Hard Disk for my 1200.
- Its a Quantum 120MB. I fitted it myself (knackering C='s warrenty) and
- it worked fine...... for an hour. The happiest hour of my life :-). After
- that, the machine would not even reset properly. The 1200 accesses the drive
- during reset and then crashes quite impressively with some interesting
- fireworks on the screen. It never even gets to the boot menu if both
- mouse buttons are pressed nor does it access a floppy.
-
- After talking to the supplier he said that the RDB (of something like that)
- was corrupted and it had to be sent back to be reformatted. He said that
- the PSU 5V line is only rated at 3amps which is enough to power an internal
- hard disk and the internal floppy but not an external floppy. I didn't
- have an external floppy drive connected but the symptoms that I was getting
- were the same.
-
- This is were I realized that my PSU is an A600 one. The HD supplier stated
- that could be the problem and asked me to get it changed to a 1200 version.
- This causes more problems as all the 1200's in the shop were I bought
- mine have an A600 PSU. Great :-(
-
- What I would like to know is:
-
- 1) Is it true that you cannot have an A1200 with an Hard disk and an external
- floppy? (Apart from powering the external floppy separately)
-
- 2) Are all the PSUs supplied with the A1200 just A600 ones?
-
- 3) Has anyone else got an A1200 with a 120MB Hard drive working correctly????
-
-
- I don't think I ever be able to put my full faith in the A1200 again......
-
-
- Any help would be *grately* appreciated.
