  19. The click is necessary because the drive doesn't check it's
  20. disk-inserted-status otherwise.  Well the click is not really useful
  21. anymore. On some old drives there where no sensor stopping the head
  22. from moveing past track 0 so what they do is step between track 0 and
  23. track 1. On newer systems one can disable the click, by makeing the
  24. drive try to step from track 0 to track -1, which it obviously can't.
  25. The light blinks as soon as the drive is accessed, eventhou i think
  26. that the specs for the drives say that the light should indicate
  27. whether or not the drive is spinning. Most drives just blink the light
  28. as soon as you access them.
