- I'm in the getting-real serious stage of the "lust for speed" here, and am
- confusing myself a wee bit. The system currently is a ECS 2000, with a
- GVP Series II hard card w/drive and 4MB Fast RAM.
-
- I want/need more speed, but in compiling information have gleaned this so far:
-
- 1. Don't worry about the lack of an MMU in the EC030.
- 2. 68881 is more bang for the buck than the 68882.
- 3. Only modest speed increases can be expected without 32-bit RAM.
-
- So, since I already have SCSI, I was looking at the VXL-30 or the Derringer.
- If I'd -thought ahead- when I bought the hard card, I'd have gotten the
- G-Force 030 combo and had it done with in one swell foop.
-
- Trouble is, it's looking like the VXL-30 with 2MB RAM is approaching the cost
- of the G-Force 030 or the IVS Vector board. Which makes me (almost) want to
- go ahead and get one or the other, pull the RAM off the GVP hard card, pull
- the hard drive off the GVP hard card (trashing the 2-year warranty), and sell
- the GVP SCSI interface.
-
- So, in the midst of this I'm hollering for suggestions/advice. I'd be
- especially interested to hear from someone with a 2000, a GVP SCSI card, and
- an accelerator -not- on the GVP card. (Compatibility issues, "actual" speed
- increase via AIBB or SysInfo, etc.)
-
- To avoid cluttering things up here, please reply by email and I'll post
- results later.
-
- Thanks!
