  16.     I've been waiting to upgrade my 3000 from what I have been told is
  17. a beta version of the OS (KS 36.207, WB 36.68) to 2.1 and have finally gotten
  18. around to getting the ball rolling.  The place I called to order 2.1 asked me
  19. if I needed a "rom tower" for my 3000.
  20.  
  21.     What is a "rom tower"?  The guy I talked to sounded like he had been in
  22. the 60's just a little too long so I don't know if he knew what he was talking
  23. about.  My 3000 was purchased very soon after they came out.  I can tell you
  24. what is on the boards inside:

  26. motherboard says it is revision 8.9
  27. daughterboard says revision 5, but has a sticker that says "Rev 6.1"
  28. The ROMS that are in there now have 390629-02 ROM0V5 and 390630-02 ROM1V5
  29. This is a 3000/25 - 100.

  31.     I'll be perfectly honest I don't know if the OS loads from ROM or from
  32. the HD.  I know I can boot 2.xx or 1.3 on power-up. I've been away from the
  33. machine much too long.  I would like to move the 3000 into the current CBM
  34. "state of the art" (oximoron?).  I get the impression that 3.x is not currently
  35. available for non-AGA machines.  Is that true?  BTW, is there some way to use
  36. the old ROMS to upgrade my 1000 from 1.2 to 1.3?  I kinda doubt it, but thought
  37. I'd ask.

  39.     I apolgize if this is in an FAQ.  I was not able to find it in a cursory
