- Adobe Photoshop (Mac) and Amiga Image Processing Software
-
- There are a lot of things I REALLY like about Photoshop. Actually, if
- you asked me to describe my ideal image processing program, I would probably
- say, used DPaint{ as the front end and add some menus for special effects
- and file format saves. The brush tool in DPaint could be used to select
- particular parts of the picture to manipulate. There are many features I
- like in ADPro and ImageMaster, but the picture-obscuring menus (as different
- as they are in the two programs) are not as intuitive and natural as
- Photoshop's show-the-picture-then-manipulate-it paradigm. What I dislike
- about Photoshop are the weak drawing tools (compared to DPaint), and the
- awkward way background/foreground colors are set/changed.
-
- However, this message isn't to get into depth about interfaces/features,
- I just wanted to mention one feature in Photoshop I have found REALLY
- useful. When Photoshop saves a file, the icon (a camera shutter shape)
- has a little generic red bar in the top left corner which gets 'stamped'
- with the file type (TIFF, ILBM, PHOTOSHOP, TARGA, etc.). This is VERY
- handy. It helps you find/organize the files at a glance in icon mode,
- AND it's absolutely great if you accidently save it with the wrong file
- extension and want to see what the heck it really was. I'd love to see
- developers of Amiga software incorporate (steal) this idea. I'm mainly
- a Shell user, but the Amiga needs more things for less techie folks, and/or
- those who prefer a graphical interface. This would be a good addition
- for all of us.
