- Well, I've called DMI a bunch of times to talk to them about the
- Editmaster, since it seems like a godsend for us animators. The guy I
- talked to assured me it would work at 30fps from a standard SCSI drive,
- but the slower the drive, the more lossy compression you have to use
- (makes sense). So, if you want 'lossless' you need SCSI II controllers
- and drives. I've seen SCSI II drives in Avid for under $2000 US (for
- around 800megs) but the problem is the SCSI II controller. Prog Perifs
- makes (I think) the Zeus 040 accelerator, which has a SCSI II build in
- and so does CSA on their 040 board. But, you're thinking, what if (like
- me) you already have an 040 board etc. Well, ICD apparently have a SCSI
- II board standalone for the 2000 and maybe the 3000 (not sure about
- this) for around $200 US. Haven't seen it yet, and I talked to them 3
- months ago. Vapourware? Anyways, I think this board will completely
- revolutionize animation, and bring it affordably to almost everyone. If
- you can afford a Toaster, you can afford an Editmaster.
