- I believe that the SNES (pronounced "sneeze", of course! :) has a clock
- speed of approximately 4mhz. It has around a 32xxx colour palette I
- believe, and can display 256 at any given time. The processor is a 65816,
- just like in the old Apple IIGS. I think the processor was indentical in
- both. I don't remember how many sound channel or what sound resolution
- it's in, but you've heard the results for yourself do needn't worry about
- what the specs suggest in this matter as this is usually more subjective
- anyway (who would imagine that 4-channel 8-bit stereo could be made to
- sound soooo good! :).
-
- The SNES has a major achilles' heel, though. It has quite decent colour
- for something meant to be displayed through an RF-modulator, and it's
- scaling/rotation hardware is great stuff, but that's where the good points
- end. Anything that can use these special features can be made to be very
- impressive, but anything else (mostly, anything such as sims that requires
- lots of CPU time) really suffers. There just isn't enough power under the
- hood when it comes to the crunch. That's why most SNES games are just
- puzzle games, shoot-em-ups, beat-em-ups, etc.
