- Which football games to get?
-
- Tom Landry - well, it has nice colors....
- John Madden - and I thought Tom Landry's play selection sucked...
- TV Sports - Brainless football at its best.
- 4th and Inches - It should be called 2nd and 14. It's that stupid.
-
- There are two that are almost cool though. But they should have been combined.
-
- Gridiron and Head Coach (Professional Football Simulation v3.0)
-
- Gridiron is an excellent mouse controlled football game. The most realistic
- as far as individual player control and play creation (You actually DRAW the
- plays with your mouse). Each player (which are small circles) are controlled
- individually. They excellerate, decelerate, and include seperate speed and
- strength attributes used to determine tackling and blocking.
- However, there are a few plays that almost always work. (You usually have to
- play the game for a LONG time to discover these, thank goodness.)
- And the game has almost NO stats. Players are merely positions. No names or
- numbers. No individual stats and no league play.
- Bethesda softworks has made THREE versions of Wayne Gretzky. I wish they'd
- dig out their Gridiron source and go at it.
- WRITE BETHESDA and urge them to do it! It'll be a great game if it's done!
-
-
- Head Coach - This is a good game if you just wanna be a coach. The play
- creation is like programming a computer, and each player is given a number,
- name, and over 10 individual attributes. Stats are kept for everything. From
- yards gained to sacks, to number of fumbles recovered... it's quite extensive.
-
- The drawbacks are the poor graphical display of the plays. The guys are
- squares, and they have the tendency to TELEPORT to the ball carrier so that
- a certain guy gets the tackle.
- There are injuries, substitutions, and technical stuff to keep the stat fan
- busy forever.
-
- Tom Landry was a decent attempt at the Head Coach concept. There are things
- I like about it, but mainly, I hate the play creation. There are too few
- options. You never get to really CUSTOMIZE your own team like in Head Coach or
- Gridiron. You also HAVE to use the NFL cities, minus the real NFL players
- names. Like Bubby Bluster, and Bernie Quasar.... Most of them aren't even close
- though.
