- Well, I've been using X-Comm 1.00 for several hours now. Version 1.00
- seems to crash more than Term 2.4a currently does. But I must say it
- is a *lot* more stable than the early releases of Term were!
-
- Things I really like that are better than Term:
- -----------------------------------------------
-
- -Redial system is much better. You can see a list of all the numbers
- you're trying to get thru to. And the max number of dial attempts lets
- you enter in whatever value you wish. Term only lets you have a max
- of 100 which is unreasonable for speed dialing a very busy number.
-
- -The on-screen review buffer is nice too. Just the way I like it.
- One suggestion though, could you make the same key that brings it
- up also take it away? Kinda like a toggle.
-
- -The ability to put the terminal window on any public screen (including
- workbench) is great! I can't think of another term program that does
- this as nicely.
-
- -The 'Terminal Window Adjuster' is neat! Finally a term program that
- lets you control *exactly* where the text display area will be. I hope
- this idea is expanded upon in future releases to allow the unused parts
- of the screen for something useful.
-
- Things I don't really like:
- ---------------------------
-
- -The file transfer window is a little bit too confusing to look
- at. For example, having two bar graphs, both of which total up
- to 100%, serves no purpose.
-
- -The current emulations offered really cripple the program.
- Currently the program is marginally useable for use with Unix and BBS's,
- but for VMS systems it is unusable for anything serious.
-
- -How can I get rid of the Status Bar at the bottom of the screen?
-
- -Text clipping is only available from the buffer.
-
- Bugs I've encountered:
- ----------------------
-
- -I can't use the set mark character while in emacs. I tried control+@
- and control+space but neither seemed to work. Is the console unable
- to pass these?
-
- -Everytime I try to load a pattern to fill the screen with, I get an
- instant guru. I went to WBPattern in the workbench preferences, selected
- a pattern, and did a save. I then used that file as the pattern file
- in X-Comm. (I am using OS 3.0 if that makes any difference.)
-
- -Sometimes when I open the review buffer, all of the text in the buffer
- has changed from color 1 to color 3. I'm not sure what causes this,
- but it seems to happen everytime I use 'nn' as my news reader.
-
- Suggestions:
- ------------
-
- -Good solid emulations that allow the user to select whatever font
- they want. Something that does upto a VT220 would be great!
-
- -Incorperate Meshugena's multiple terminal windows using 'uw'
- concept into X-Comm. This would give us Unix users a nice, small,
- simple alternative to DNet.
-
- If these two features are implementated, I'll surely register!
- At any rate, even in it's current state, X-Comm looks promising!
