  13. All right, I figured I'd better put my $.02 in....

  15. I'm set up with A3000 (2M chip, 4M fast, 25 MHz), VLT, xprzmodem, and
  16. baudbandit.device under 2.04, downloading to RAM:.  I've got a ZyXEL
  17. U-1496E, locked at 38.4Kbps DTE rate.

  19. When I dial up my school modems (V.32 9600bps, V.42bis compression),
  20. things really screw up.  I get major problems with downloading.  This
  21. included errors, dropped characters, and so forth.  My max data rate
  22. on a zmodem download (after all the errors) is about 550cps.

  24. I just dialed up the ZyXEL BBS (ZyXEL proprietary 16,800bps, V.42bis).
  25. I downloaded a text file and got over 3000cps (compressible file,
  26. remember).

  28. So, the Amiga probably is not the major problem in a situation like
  29. this.  I got a 5X difference that depended on the place I called, not
  30. the way I was set up here.  In addition, the very high data rate
  31. (3000cps) did not present a problem on my machines.  I don't know what
  32. would happen on a 68000-based machine.
