- No-one has officially announced that they are developing a DSP
- module for the A1200, but my personal opinion is that it's only a matter
- of time. C= is supposedly working on a DSP unit for the A4000 and may
- produce a cut down version for the A1200, but they haven't said that
- they will.

-
- Basically, a DSP manipulates a digital signal. The signal can be
- sound, video, or some other type of data. The beauty of a DSP is that it
- can be programmed to perform different types of manipulation, instead of
- being designed to perform only one specific function.
-
- The sorts of things DSP's are being used for are, filtering out
- interference in communication signals for sattelites, high bandwidth
- audio (eg high capacity telephone network equipment) and video (eg
- television transmission) and video and audio effects processing, radar
- signal processing, analysing deep space signals picked up by radio
- telescopes, and lots more. A DSP will really shine in a situation where
- you have a continuous signal of some sort which you want to modify.
-
- The Atari devotees have been talking about using the DSP in the
- Falcon as the guts of a high speed modem. Plug an adaptor cable between
- the phone socket and the DSP port, run a DSP modem program and away you
- go.
