  20.         No-one has officially announced that they are developing a DSP
  21. module for the A1200, but my personal opinion is that it's only a matter
  22. of time. C= is supposedly working on a DSP unit for the A4000 and may
  23. produce a cut down version for the A1200, but they haven't said that
  24. they will.

  29.         Basically, a DSP manipulates a digital signal. The signal can be
  30. sound, video, or some other type of data. The beauty of a DSP is that it
  31. can be programmed to perform different types of manipulation, instead of
  32. being designed to perform only one specific function.

  34.         The sorts of things DSP's are being used for are, filtering out
  35. interference in communication signals for sattelites, high bandwidth
  36. audio (eg high capacity telephone network equipment) and video (eg
  37. television transmission) and video and audio effects processing, radar
  38. signal processing, analysing deep space signals picked up by radio
  39. telescopes, and lots more. A DSP will really shine in a situation where
  40. you have a continuous signal of some sort which you want to modify.

  42.         The Atari devotees have been talking about using the DSP in the
  43. Falcon as the guts of a high speed modem. Plug an adaptor cable between
  44. the phone socket and the DSP port, run a DSP modem program and away you
  45. go.
