  13. I hope no one considers this *terribly* off-topic, but I'm DESPERATE
  14. for an answer here...

  16. I purchased my brilliant HP DeskJet 500 about 6 months ago, and, as
  17. yet, have been unable to make it work to its fullest capacity.  My
  18. setup is: Amiga 2000HD using Excellence! V3.0, printer on parallel port.
  19.  
  20. This is my problem:
  21. 1.  The DJ500 has an excellent internal font called CGTimes (6,12 pt.)
  22. 2.  It can print this font at something like 240 cps.
  23. 3.  It appears to me that because my software does not know the
  24. dimensions for the font, there's no way in hell I'm going to get my
  25. documents to print out (formatted properly) in CGTimes.
  26. 4.  This is very disappointing for me.  I'd have been prepared to give
  27. up and blame the printer, until last weekend when I hooked it up to a
  28. Toshiba clone laptop that I brought home -- and Word 5.5 will output in
  29. flawless CGTimes. :-(

  32. The solutions I have thought of and why they're unsatisfactory:
  33. 1.  Buy a Toshiba laptop -- can't afford it.  Don't like MS-DOS machines.
  34. 2.  Buy a 2/386 emulator -- see above.
  35. 3.  Output everything in non-proportional Courier -- naturally, this
  36. works, but that's hardly the point.
  37. 4.  Use a DTP program to output in CGTimes based in software -- once
  38. again, I can (and do) do this, but it's not the point.  For one thing,
  39. it's damn slow, and DTP software doesn't have anything like the WP'ing
  40. flexibility I need.

  42. So:  If *anyone* is currently making an Amiga successfully talk to a
  43. DeskJet500 using *any* software or *any* trick/magic/witchcraft, then
  44. PLEASE let me know.  Email me if only to comiserate!
