- Many users have experienced fatal problems with the 1.00 version of
- the "login" program and its cohorts, available for FTP from several
- sites. This new version corrects compiler errors, allowing the
- programs to be run on any Amiga.
-
- [Request: Word has reached me that login 1.00 is available on GEnie.
- Would someone please put this version there, too? I know of at least
- one person with only GEnie access who couldn't run the previous
- version. Thanks.]
-
- Here's the blurb. I didn't spend long writing it, so if you have
- questions, plese followup or reply-mail.
-
- --------
- Login is a program for AmigaDOS 2.0 and higher which allows access
- restriction to both console and serial-line shells by means of Unix-
- style password encryption. Login utilities support any number of
- usernames, each with a potentially unique password. Console
- restriction is similar to that of the NeXT login screen, while TTY
- access resembles remote Unix login. Supported features include:
-
- - logging of successful and failed login attempts
- - console lock, something like XLock
- - customization of environment after successful login
- - multiple screen resolutions
- - palette customization for login screen
- - chsh, chfn, finger, last, nu utilities similar to Unix
- - screen dimming/blanking for login screen
- - etcetera
-
- Version 1.09 fixes code bugs from version 1.00 (due to compiler
- bugs) which prevented login from working on some Amigas. It also
- has a nicer manual. If you feel a need to protect your Amiga from
- undesirable users, I'm pretty sure you'll like these programs.
-
- AmigaDOS 2.0 or higher is required; a hard-disk system is strongly
- recommended.
-
- New stuff is planned for future versions, including a windowed
- new-user tool, customizable imagery, and custom fonts. Future
- possibilities include allowing distinct environments for
- simultaneous users and more Unix-like multi-user features.
- -----------
-
- The package can be retrieved from AmiNet sites under:
- new/login109.lha (temporarily),
- moving to
- util/crypt/login109.lha (I think)
-
- If I'm wrong, ask archie and please correct me.
