  16. Clarinet, the online newservice available via many USENET hosts,
  17. reports that 3DO, the new startup headed by Electronic Arts CEO Trip
  18. Hawkins, is showing its advanced video-game player, capable of "3D"
  19. effects, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

  21. According to Clarinet, "The device, to hit retail stores in the fall
  22. at a price of about $700, will play game and educational software,
  23. audio compact discs and photo compact discs. Future attachments will
  24. enable it to show movies, edit videotape, play musical instruments and
  25. receive cable-television signals.  A packed news conference to
  26. announce the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer drew a crowd of about 500,
  27. partly because of the heavy-weight backing that the fledgling company
  28. has generated for the product launch.  The company's investor partners
  29. include Matsushita Electric and its MCA subsidiary, as well as AT&T,
  30. Time Warner Inc. and software-producer Electronic Arts.

  33. Spielberg is involved in the 3DO project and a Hawkins-supporter.
