- I tried this game, but I have a problem with resoring saved games.
- When clicking on the saved game, it starts up fine and you can even
- finish your turn O.K. (doing movement and viewing cards), but when the
- next player (which is the computer) is in the process of placing his
- new units the program displays a window with a text something like
- "Unexpected internal error <some number>. Must I quit?" At this point
- you can only click in the box, and the game quits. This makes the game
- of little use, as it takes too long to play a full game in a single
- session.
-
- If neccessary I can write down the exact message and post it.
-
- I have a few suggestions for improvements - nothing too dramatic.
-
- 1) Allow a way to view the borders of the "continents" during the
- game, e.g. by showing the original colouring of the board. When
- playing the U.S.A. map, I forgot the exact borders.
-
- 2) Allow an option for fast die-rolling. This would just show the
- final results without animating the die-rolling.
-
- 3) If an attack is not conclusive (both attacker and defender have
- units left), keep the two countries selected so a repeated attack is
- faster to do. You might even make the attack force default to the same
- as before (or rather, let the number of units that doesn't participate
- remain constant).
-
- 4) Add an "attack with full force until country is conquered or
- attacker has less than N units left" option for faster fights between
- large forces.
-
- On a more difficult level, I would like to see more intelligence in
- the computer players. They are O.K. when they try to capture a
- continent that they have a superior force in, and in protecting that.
- But if they have no immediate chance of capturing a continent they
- appear rather aimless. Some kind of long-term strategy would be
- useful.
-
- Otherwise, I think it is a good adaption of the game.
