- I have been reading all this discussion over the relative benefits and
- drawbacks between smail and sendmail. One problem, I still have the same
- problem I had when I wrote the original article with this title.
-
- Interesting thing is, that I DO NOT have a smail binary on the system!
- When I do a 'type smail' at me ksh prompt, it says 'smail not found'.
- I DO have a /usr/spool/smail directory AND a /usr/lib/smail directory,
- but my binary is sendmail which lives in /usr/bin/sendmail. In the
- /usr/lib/smail are such things as routers, aliases, mkpath and all of
- that, yet no smail binary.
-
- I would have concluded that i am just missing the smail and that is my
- problem, except that (as I said in the original article) my prob;lem
- of mail 'sticking' in /usr/spool/smail/input is not constant (although
- it is virtually constant these days). In otherwords, mail DOES get
- out sometimes but not others.
-
- For those who missed the original post, Here is a BRIEF synopsis...
-
- On my UNIXPC 7300, outgoing mail is getting stuck in
- /usr/spool/smail/input and not passing on to the uucp spool for
- sending on to my mailserver site. When this happens, there is a
- coresponding lock file in /usr/spool/smail/lock. Removal of that file
- does NOT release the letter.
-
- Other than getting a better machine :-), what can I do to fix this?
-
- Thanks for all help.
