- Awkcc does precisely what you state and is available in source from the UNIX
- Toolchest via modem +1.908.522.6900; login as "guest" (information from page
- xvii of _sed & awk_ by Dale Dougherty and published by O'Reilly & Associates,
- Inc. 1991). I've used it and yes it really does work. It appears that the
- greatest increase in throughput occurs when you perform severe manipulations
- of the data and not when simply using awk as a fancy grep.
