- It interesting to note that the project oriented SE course
- is so popular. At UNCW our students get plenty of experience in C
- language. So for about the last ten years I have been offering
- an SE undergraduate course. The course emphasizes tools like
- awk, sed, grep, shell programing, make, sccs, diction and style.
- The object is to prototype a system. C coding in not allowed-
- almost.
- Project we have used include
- Electronic banking
- Electronic voting systems
- Bullentin Board Systems
- Economic analysis systems
- Library tracking systems
- Graduate tracking systems (This one is still in use)
-
- or
- A project generated by the class.
- The students are required to review a book in writing,
- Give a talk on their project, Keep a log of their work for
- the semester and work as a team. Requiring teamwork is
- nonsense. The students are informed that teamwork will
- most likely produce a good project and hmmm a good grade.
- Had to break up a brawl one Sundy morning.
- The course is designed to simulate the work place.
- It is a fun course to teach. Too bad there is no one text
- for such a course.
