  12. It interesting to note that the project oriented SE course
  13. is so popular. At UNCW our students get plenty of experience in C
  14. language. So for about the last ten years I have been offering 
  15. an SE undergraduate course. The course emphasizes tools like 
  16. awk, sed, grep, shell programing, make, sccs, diction and style. 
  17. The object is to prototype a system. C coding in not allowed-
  18. almost. 
  19. Project we have used include
  20. Electronic banking
  21. Electronic voting systems
  22. Bullentin Board Systems
  23. Economic analysis systems
  24. Library tracking systems
  25. Graduate tracking systems (This one is still in use)
  26.

  28. A project generated by the class.
  29. The students are required to review a book in writing, 
  30. Give a talk on their project, Keep a log of their work for
  31. the semester and work as a team. Requiring teamwork is
  32. nonsense. The students are informed that teamwork will
  33. most likely produce a good project and hmmm a good grade.
  34. Had to break up a brawl one Sundy morning. 
  35. The course is designed to simulate the work place. 
  36. It is a fun course to teach. Too bad there is no one text
  37. for such a course.
