- I wonder - if you sent a 'mother' which was an orbiter (two for
- redundancy ) and then made the 'rovers' less complex but more
- able to move and do fewer tasks - couldn't you fit more of 'em
- on board and increase the chances of success and continued
- viability of the experiment?

- The 'mother' which was an orbiter would avoid the problems of the antenna
- placement and power ( you could use a nuke reactor cheap from the
- Soviet space program right now as hard up as they are for cash)
- and if you were to go for an economy orbit to get it there (2 years
- or so isn't it?) you might really allow for a lot more
- money going into more rovers.
