  17. The btng package is the result of the latest work done by
  18. the DNPAP group of the Delft University of Technology.
  19.  
  20. The btng package includes beholder.exe, an RMON compliant 
  21. ethernet monitor for the OS/2 operating system environment.
  22. It also includes the Tricklet package for OS/2 and UNIX. Tricklet is
  23. a set of SNMP utilities, including a full featured Perl interface.

  25. The OS/2 executables and documentation of btng and Tricklet 
  26. version 2 can be found in:

  47.     - optional TCP/IP 1.2 from IBM for OS/2 (only used by Tricklet)

  51. On a UNIX platform you will need an ANSI C compiler and a TCP/IP
  52. stack with socket interface.

  59.     - IBM's OS2 toolkit for OS/2 1.3

  85. Now the bad news:

  87.     - btng2 is the first (beta-like) version that hits the
  88.       public streets. There will be problems/bugs.
  89.     - it is a very advanced piece of software, and you
  90.       can do a lot of things wrong.
  91.     - there is documentation, but no introduction
  92.       for the use of SNMP and RMON monitors.
  93.       
  94. We wrote this software to experiment with network managament, SNMP,
  95. and RMON. Although the software conforms to all these standards,
  96. it is should not be confused with commercial products. We don't give 
  97. support, and don't ask for money and licence fees.
  98.  
  99. So use it to experiment with network management, in non-critical 
  100. network environments.
