- Recently I was told that it is possible, though rare, for typical
- implementations of NFS servers to return the same entry twice in the ls
- command. This is under extreme load, where entries are being added and
- deleted while the directory read is taking place. Somehow the directory
- cookie algorithms are not sophisticated enough to handle the holes that
- appear and disappear in the directory.
-
- This is obviously bad news for scripts that execute non-idempotent
- operations with each entry in the directory.
-
- Does anyone have any experience with this? Is this behaviour considered
- acceptable as long as it is rare?
-
- Thanks alot,
-
