- Oh, my! I didn't want to start a war, but here goes:
-
- 1. Dave and Bill: thanks for the references and ISBN's, but unfortunately
- from the descriptions given they don't seem to cover what
- I need (displaying PCX graphics from disk). They look like
- great books on drawing graphics (fractals, curves, etc.), but not on
- bit-mapped graphics. But (I hear you say) what about the book of that
- name? Again unfortunately, that's the book I mentioned in
- my original post (by Rimmer) that doesn't work. An acquaintance
- sent for the disk; his response: the executables on it work GREAT,
- but the source code either doesn't compile at all, or compiles
- but doesn't work! (sigh) So, as far as the original post
- is concerned, I'm still looking. I HAVE looked in MANY bookstores
- for source material, but so far the ONLY thing I've found was
- Rimmer's book, and I've tried (as I said in the original post)
- TWO editions of that book with no success... grr....
-
- 2. To all: I apologize for not knowing of the existence of comp.graphics...
- my company is not a full Internet site, so we don't even have
- access to many newsgroups mentioned on the net, but we DO
- seem to have access to this one, so I'll try it. The reason
- I posted where I did: it was a C programming problem.
-
- 3. To Bill: thanks for the defense. I don't believe Dave's "peeves"
- were justified.
-
- 4. To Dave: thanks again for the ISBN number, and the followup post,
- but I WAS offended by your "peeves", so to respond:
- >Peeve #1: there are so many peesee dweebs that think the whole friggin'
- > net is their personal playground.
- My note made it clear I HAD tried to solve the problem myself;
- asking for advice/assistance does not (I should hope) make me
- a "peesee dweeb". I think that was rude and uncalled-for.
- >
- >Peeve #2: People who post the same friggin' message multiple times to
- > different news groups instead of cross-posting once.
- I posted twice, once each in two groups. I apologize if this
- qualifies on the Internet as "multiple" times rather than the
- apparently-OK "cross-posting once". My math says they're
- equivalent, but what do I know...
-
- As for Peeve #3, using "PC" to refer to IBM-clones, well... oh, never mind.
- I've only been in this business professionally for 9 years, so maybe I'm
- not up on the correct terminology. And, granted, I've been in the IBM
- world in the main until the last two years of crossing into the Unix arena,
- so maybe I presume too much.
-
- ANYWAY: I'll keep looking, and if anyone has any other good sources, maybe
- you'd better call/email them to me. I don't want to start this up again!
