- My superior wants me to generate a cpu usage report, ordered by
- user applications, system manager activities, reporting tools, operating
- system,...
- I can use VPA to define workloads and generate reports based on resource
- consumption by these workloads. What I would like to know is
-
- a) How to take into account the cpu contribution from VMS itself (those
- activities that are not dedicated to processes like swapper, ...).
- I might concentrate on the different cpu modes (kernel, supervisor, ...) but is
- this allright ?
- b) How to take into account activities that are command procedure based (e.g.
- various system management activities, reporting tools). I think it is not
- possible to define workloads based on names of batchjobs, command procedures.
- One idea might me that I copy LOGINOUT.EXE to ACTION1.EXE for each command proc
- and then do a RUN ACTION1/INPUT=cmdproc1.
- c) How do I interpret idle time. IBM system managers claim their system is
- never idle, even when there are no users or applications running.
- Is this reasonable or are there better ways.
- d) How to generate e.g. a pie chart report in which the idle time is included.
- Please reply by e-mail and I will summarize.
- Thanks
