  13. I have got a problem on a VS2000 that I have narrowed down to
  14. the RD54 in the system.  I think the final answer to my question will be
  15. replace/reformat the drive, depending on how severe it is, _but_ I wonder
  16. if anyone out there has encountered this problem before and may know a
  17. 'majic' fix to get me out of the mire.

  19. Problem :
  20. System does POST routines ok.
  21. System loads Cold boot track and signs on with appropriate VMS message.
  22. System then gives error message :
  23. '%SYSTEM-I-MOUNTVER _DUA0: is offline. Mount Verification in progress.'
  24. The disk unit then appears to perform a 'seek'-'reset' sequence and keeps
  25. on doing this at about 4 second intervals with a little 'normal' disk
  26. activity in between.  The sound it issues is just like an end to end seek.
  27. Nothing furthur happens.

  29. I have run TEST 71 and it completes with an OK message except that it
  30. reports Cylinder 458, Surface 12 sectors 0-15 in a table headed 
  31. VSmsv_STS_NBBpos.  The OBB count is 106 and the NBB is 15.

  33. I _think_ this means the disk is.., how does one say,
  34. 'not-healthy'(otherwise &^%@ed).

  36. As ever this is a donated machine, which was donated without all the
  37. manuals and tapes !!

  39. If anyone has any idea how I might get round this then please mail me and
  40. if anything interesting comes up I will summarize.
