- BLISS is the language of choice (why have so many examples in BLISS?).
- FORTRAN, however, is God's language :-). The last I heard, over 85% of all VAX
- sites had at least one machine with FORTRAN. It really is the closest thing to
- a truly portable language. And it is very popular with the
- engineering/scientific types, who were the original BIG TIME users of VAXen.

- Of course. COBOL was never designed or intended to be anything other than a
- "drop 'em in the hopper" language. Libraries, external routines, even
- sophisticated I/O are all nasty tack-ons, at best. And Admr. Hopper really
- intended it to be run only on IBM 709's, Sperry's and Univac's. Just be glad
- you have a COBOL compiler. Se figure 1. BIG :-)
