I hate to add my $0.02 on this subject, but I thought I might be able to
show a slightly different point of view. Just before the holidays, I posted
my first question ever to this newsgroup. Much to my chargrin, the answer
was in TFM. But, other than some ribbing, I didn't get flamed. I believe

Most of the bashing that I've seen have been against cryptic questions --
"I've got this problem which VMS gags on and could you help me?" kind of

I figure that posting a question is like asking for help from someone whom
you think is an expert, but you don't know personally. If after not finding your answer on your own, don't you tend to approach that person with as much information
as you've got that clearly states your problem? After all, you are asking a favor
and you never know, you might have to ask another.
