- Hello, I tried upgrading my system last night and ran into a roadblock that
- I'm hoping you good folks can help with. My old system was a standard
- IDE controller with a Conner 102MB IDE drive. This setup has worked fine
- for 2 or 3 years and run under OS/2 since last May just fine, no problems.
-
- Last night I installed an Adaptec 1542B card with the default jumper
- positions, nothing was changed. For the drive, I have a Quantum LPS240S
- SCSI 245 MB drive. The 1542B is at address 7 and the drive at address 0.
- I booted up a DOS 5.0 diskette, ran FDISK on the drive and did a FORMAT
- c: /S with no problems. Then I booted up the GA package and things
- proceeded normally until diskette #9. At diskette #9 the install program
- hemmed and hawed for some time, then gave me a "Unable to Access Drive
- A:" error message.
-
- Any ideas?? My apologies if this is an FAQ. I don't have the list in
- front of me right now. One thing I'm suspicious of is the relatively
- old copyright dates of the Adaptec BIOS ROM and Quantum ROM, both have
- 1988 date codes. The Adaptec BIOS is revision 3.10. I almost forgot,
- the IDE drive and card were removed from the PC.
-
- Thanks as usual for your assistance and good luck.
