- }>wrong! OS/2 will understand FAT partitions. The disks in your A: drive, e.g.,
- }>are FAT formatted.
- }Actually, it seems (quite unfortunately!!!) that my initial observation
- }was correct. The OS/2 2.0 Installation Guide says:
-
- } pp 34-35: [Exclusivity of primary partitions].
-
- }Frankly, this seems to be a very silly arrangement to me. There is no
- }practical reason why OS/2 2.0 installed with HPFS in partition 2 or 3
- }shouldn't be able to access DOS programs and data stored in a FAT type
- }partition 1. The only question would be what to call partition 1 when
- }partition 2 or 3 are called drive C:.
-
- }This problem means that if anyone elects to install the HPFS they will
- }not be able to access programs or data in any other bootable partition.
-
- }Someone should fix this problem right away -- and preferably in time
- }for the March release of OS/2 2.1 !!!
-
- Hopefully you will not be flamed too much for not knowing this, but OS/2
- may be installed in and booted from an extended partition, thus preserv-
- ing visibility of the primary partition to OS/2. This is exactly the
- arrangement I use right now: a primary partition containing a bootable
- MSDOS and all of my MSDOS stuff including WINDOWS and an extended parti-
- tion containing OS/2. To make this work, I have the boot manager instal-
- led -- this software allows booting from an extended partition (and from
- drive 2, as well). Thus, all my MSDOS environment is visible (though not
- necessarily useful) whenever I boot OS/2. Indeed, since I am using 4DOS,
- I am able to reuse my C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT for my DOS command line environment
- under OS/2. Further, thanks to 4DOS, I also have separate AUTOEXEC files
- for WINOS2 and for DOS programs started from icons. I can have a differ-
- ent AUTOEXEC for each DOS program and each separate WINOS2 session if
- necessary.
