- Hello All, (and especially IBM developers for IBM1S506.ADD)
-
- I am a very happy user of the first beta release of the IBM1S506.ADD driver.
-
- Full name: ibm1s506.add 22583 11-18-92 21:25
-
- This driver gave me the support for my 3rd harddisk connected to a
- secondary harddisk controller. And it was also the first IBM1S506.ADD driver
- that gave access to the second harddisk connected to my primary controller.
- Everything is working perfectly when I use this release of the driver.
-
- In config.sys I use:
- BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD /V /A:1 /U:0 /GEO:(820,6,16)
-
- My configuration: -386/33 9Mb RAM, ISA bus, Cyrix 387
- -3 Harddisks
- Controller 1 (Base Address 1F0) WD1003 RLL (ST506)
- with 2 disks attached (Seagate & MiniScribe)
- Controller 2 (Base Address 170) MFM (ST506)
- 1 disk attached (Seagate)
-
- A few days ago I found a more recent release of this driver on Hobbes and
- I downloaded it to see if there were any improvements in it. The accompanying
- doc file told me that a number of problems were resolved. So I installed
- the new driver, altough none of the resolved problems where applicable to
- my situation.
-
- Full name: ibm1s506.add 22893 12-19-92 2:00
-
- As a result of this OS2 no longer recognizes the second harddisk connected
- to my primary controller. The disk connected to the secondary controller
- was installed as before and could be accessed without problems.
- This is the same problem that existed with with all pre-beta releases of
- this driver and I needed to use the generic INT13 driver until the
- November SPB506.ZIP file came along.
-
- Needless to say that, after I went back to the first driver, everything is
- working alright again.
-
- So the changes that IBM made to the driver might be an improvement for
- some people and configurations but they are a not for me. I would like to
- ask IBM to change at least some part of the code (related to accessing
- the 2nd disk on a controller) back to the older version because that
- seemed to work and the newer version doesn't.
-
- Maybe this problem with the second drive connected to a controller is also
- related to the problems some people are having using a second IDE drive?
-
- I think or hope that developers from IBM are reading the messages on the
- net, but I would also like to send this message directly to IBM, if I new
- where and to whome.
