- Well, I've gotten several responses to my query about which CD-ROM to
- purchase. I'd like to invite some more, and then I'll summarize for the
- list.
-
- What folks aren't mentioning is specific (or even approximate) model
- numbers. Just Texel, Sony, Toshiba, etc. It would be helpful if you
- could let me know which models, and/or their associated mean access
- times, transfer rates, etc. Even within the same manufacturer these seem
- to vary a great deal.
-
- So, which Texel? I have speeds on the Toshiba 3301 and 3401, more or less,
- although different vendors have different identifying letters or codes in
- front of these numbers. The Toshiba 3401, being offered thru CD
- Technology, Inc. (with coupon from IBM) has a 200 millisecond random
- access time, a 330 Kb/sec transfer rate, dual spin, and is multi-session
- Kodak compatible/capable, according to the folks at CD Tech. They didn't
- know whether it was able to do Sony XA, another possible (someday)
- "industry standard". The external version has jacks for speakers.
-
- So, how might this compare to the Texel, or the Sony, and which might be
- the comparable Texel and Sony models????? TIA!!
