  24. It's really a matter of personal preference.  I recommend going with an
  25. external model, for the following reasons:
  26.  
  27.         - More portable, easy to move between computers.
  28.         - Visual status displays on most models to detect trouble.
  29.         - Doesn't tie up an expansion slot.
  30.         - Not limited to a specific IRQ; if your serial port can be
  31.           configured the modem will handle any of them.
  32.         - Easier to do a "hardware reset" of the modem.
  33.         - Some internals, when having problems, don't hang up or reset
  34.           upon system reset -- you have to power-down the computer.
  35.         - Not *that* much more terribly expensive.

  37. I've probably missed a few, but those are the reasons I use externals.
