- It's really a matter of personal preference. I recommend going with an
- external model, for the following reasons:

- - More portable, easy to move between computers.
- - Visual status displays on most models to detect trouble.
- - Doesn't tie up an expansion slot.
- - Not limited to a specific IRQ; if your serial port can be
- configured the modem will handle any of them.
- - Easier to do a "hardware reset" of the modem.
- - Some internals, when having problems, don't hang up or reset
- upon system reset -- you have to power-down the computer.
- - Not *that* much more terribly expensive.
