- The old diskette 9 problem still exists in 2.1 beta. I have an Adaptec
- 1542B, and when diskette 9 of the install set starts loading, the
- error message about a read error on the diskette drive appears. Waiting
- for the hard disk to quiece allows continuation of the install.
-
- This has been around for at least 1 year (I, and many others, encountered
- it as far back as 6.177).
-
- 1. A 386/486 is a very intelligent CPU.
- 2. IBM has many really excellent programmers and designers.
- 3 The Adaptec 1542B is a reasonably intelligent interface.
- 4 Adaptec has also many very good people.
-
- Question: with all this intellectual and electronic horsepower available,
- after all these releases since 6.177, is it really impossible to fix this bug?
- It's one thing to have a bunch of expert users, with internet access,
- bypass it.
- It's quite another to require the general computing public deal with it.
- Installation _must_ be idiot-proof.
