  12. Hello again -- still need help :-(

  14. I have an Adaptec 1542B that works fine with a Maxtor hard disk and NEC
  15. CD-ROM. But I can't get the "gtak201" version of gnu tar to work with my
  16. Sankyo CP-150SE tape drive [a clone of wang 5150SE maybe?].

  18. No matter what I try I get the message
  19.  
  20.     "Fatal SCSI error: Cannot access device TAPE$2, return code 31"
  21.  
  22. when I try to use the "tape ret" command.
  23.  
  24. I have tried disabling the CD-ROM in my config.sys.
  25.  
  26. I have tried both the GA-SP and 2.1 beta.
  27.  
  28. On the advice of someone on the net, I have added ASPI support, so that the
  29. relevant entries in my config.sys are [these are at the end]:

  31.     BASEDEV=OS2ASPI.DMD
  32.     SET TAPE=+++TAPE$2
  33.     SET TAPEMODE=0
  34.     BASEDEV=SCSITAPE.DMD TAPE$2 A0 2 S0
  35.  
  36. Has anyone gotten a similar configration to work? How about a WangDat with
  37. gtak and Adaptec 1542B and GA+SP or 2.1 Beta?
  38.  
  39. Any differences in your config.sys? Any other tape drives that are
  40. inexpensive and available in the U.S. that work?
  41.  
  42. Any other HPFS-aware backup software that works with my hardware?
  43.  
  44. Any OS/2 or DOS-based diagnostic programs that might be useful in
  45. probing the origin of my problems?
  46.  
  47. Advice gratefully accepted.
