- There seems to be an install problem with 2.1 beta if you put it
- on top of an old system with SVGA ON. I have a big disk, and
- two copies of OS/2. The beta went on flawlessly on a vanilla
- PDK (Win31 old beta) system. However, applying the same process
- to my production system the install process failed at the end
- when internally running DSPINSTL. The problem is that the new
- DSPINSTL runs "SVGA ON" in a DOS fullscreen session during the
- install. However, if the old system had an old format SVGADATA.PMI
- file then the beta install cannot properly create the fullscreen
- DOS session. Ultimately, it pops up a message asking for the first
- display driver diskette to be mounted on the F: (CD-ROM) drive.
- Needless to say, the diskette does not fit in the CDROM drive, and
- it would not take the installed CD volume as a response.
-
- I cannot recreate the experiment, so I cannot verify that SVGADATA
- is absolutely the problem, but since the failure occured about
- the time that the install internally runs SVGA ON, I have
- high confidence this is the problem. I strongly recommend deleting
- the old SVGADATA before install if you are not going to format the
- partition.
