- But what about us poor schmucks who have OS/2 2.0 running on our machines,
- want to (*very* willing to!!!) run OS/2 2.1 BETA on our systems, BUT DON'T
- HAVE A CD-ROM DRIVE ???????

-
- Here's how I do it. I don't have a CD-ROM drive on an OS/2 system but
- I do have one on a SPARC.
-
- Mount the cd-rom in the sparc.
-
- mount -r -t hsfs /dev/sr0 /cdrom
-
- Use the unix cp command to copy all the .dsk files to the sparc disk.
- Use the Info-ZIP ZIP to compress each .dsk file to it's own .zip file.
- This is because some of the .dsk files don't seem to fit easily on a
- 1.44 meg floppy.
-
- Write each .zip file to a dos formatted floppy using MTOOLS.
-
- Sneakernet the floppies to the OS/2 system.
-
- Read each .zip file onto the OS/2 system.
- Unzip each .zip file to get .dsk files.
-
- LOADDSKF each .dsk file back to floppies.
-
- Volia, you have a set of diskettes. Boot the OS/2 system off of the
- diskette you wrote the installation disk image from. This whole
- procedure takes close to 8 hrs. Most of the time is waiting for the
- floppy drive on the OS/2 system.
-
- The above procedure requires the minimum of a CD-ROM drive on some
- system and some way of moving binary files from that system ot an OS/2
- or DOS system.
-
- Have fun....
