- Hi!
-
-
- I installed OS/2 2.1 Beta on my machine yesterday. With all the talk about
- reformatting the hard drive, I simply deleted all OS/2 files by booting from DOS
- (I am using BOOT MANAGER) and then proceeded by installing from the 27 floppies
- I made earlier. I have a 212 MB IDE drive with 1MB Boot Manager, 5 MB DOS and
- rest as a FAT partition with OS/2 residing on it. I didn't want to reformat
- because I have so much stuff on the D: drive. And since I don't have access to a
- tape drive, back up is nearly impossible.
-
-
- Well, the installation was OK. But when I booted back, I realized that I can't
- get a listing of my D: drive. It only listed OS/2 directory and displayed a
- message about corrupted extended attributes (No problem in an OS/2 DOS session
- though, might be that I only have corrupted EAs and DOS won't use them anyway).
- So, I did a Shut Down, booted off a floppy, inserted "Disk 2" of 2.1 Beta and
- ran CHKDSK D: /F. It gave me lots of messages about corrupted EAs and that they
- were fixed. Also, it gave me messages about cross linked files but it didn't do
- anything to fix them. I still get messages about Cross Linking in EAs when I run
- chkdsk. Also, one of my directories won't show on D: Drive on WPS. It lists that
- directory if I am in an OS/2 window or DOS session.
-
- I then proceeded to run DSPINSTALL. I have a paradise WDC90c30 based card with 1
- MB RAM and was glad to see that 2.1 Beta has support for Paradise. I selected
- 640X480 256 Colors mode. Blank Screen! It gave me a message about Internal
- processing error, "Trap000d" and some locations. Tried to recover by rebooting
- and using Alt-F1 combination. Didn't work. A blank screen showed up after the
- initial logos. Installed again by swapping 27 floppies (phew!) and haven't
- touched DSPINSTALL since.
-
- My questions:
-
- a) Is there an easy way to recover after display problems like that?
- b) What is Trap 000d and what does it mean in this case?
- c) Has anyone else installed 2.1 Beta with Paradise Video?
- d) Is there a way to correct Cross Linking in EAs?
- e) How can I make WPS to see my missing directory (folder)?
-
- Thanks!
