  11. I believe I have discovered a fairly serious bug in OS/2 2.1 beta.
  12. The problem occurred while trying to run a seamless Windows application
  13. on a system with the Novell Netware Requester installed.  
  14.  
  15. When I tried to run the Windows application I got the following 
  16. message in a window:

  18.     The NewWare Shell has not been loaded.
  19.  
  20.     All network functions will be disabled.
  21.  
  22.   To use NetWare, load the NetWare Shell and restart Windows.
  23.  
  24. After clicking OK to continue, there were a few more disk accesses 
  25. and then the machine hung.  Although the mouse was still active, I
  26. could not activate any other windows, nor could I Alt-Esc or Ctrl-Esc.
  27. The only alternative was the three finger salute.

  29. Note: The problem occurs regardless of whether I am logged into the
  30. netware drive.  I will be reporting this bug to IBM on CompuServe, 
  31. but I'm wondering if anyone else has seen the problem...

  35. I installed 800x600x256 and was not overly impressed by the scrolling
  36. speed.  It's almost enough to make me return to 640x480x256.

  38. I noticed that WinOS2 3.1 window creations seem faster than OS/2 window
  39. creation.  This should be fixed or Microsoft will ...

  41. There is still no HPFS support for large removable drives.  Just getting
  42. a DIRectory listing of a 128MByte FAT drive is still very slow.  MY DOS
  43. drivers for this drive are much faster.  HPFS should be extended to large
  44. removable drives.

  46. Apparently, there is still only one PM message queue!  This is a glaring
  47. deficiency in an otherwise extremely well designed product.

  49. Overall, I like the new OS/2.  Things do seem faster and the
  50. installation from CD-ROM was a breeze.
