- I have a copy of "Ready for Letters" for my two small children. I have
- it running under OS/2 (on a clone 486/33 with a SB Pro card on IRQ 5).
- The program starts and runs (with the music playing just fine). The problem
- that I have is that if the program "moves" into certain areas (such as the
- kitchen or the workshop), I get crackling noises, and the system slows down to
- a crawl. I can switch out of the program and kill the task, but it takes on
- the order of 60 seconds to paint the WPS screen etc.
-
- I suspect the problem is with the program and speech generation. I talked
- to tech support, but, of course, they were of no help ("OS/2??? Is that something
- that runs under Windows?" - an actual quote). The program also provides no
- configuration as such, and does the IRQ scanning automatically.
-
- Is there anyone out there who either has a similar problem, or knows of a
- workaround? We really like the program (and my 2 year old son loves it), but
- it's really irritating to have to help him out every 2-3 minutes when he
- wanders into the wrong room in the program!
-
- Thanks in advance,
