-
- I was rather shocked when I installed WC I christmas night (thanks dad!) and
- it ran fine. Of course, I've got a default DOS window with all the typical
- settings (timer access on, video refresh emulation off, etc). I'm on a 50 Mhz
- 486 with a soundblaster, disk formatted with HPFS.
-
- I wish game companies would get with the program and adjust the speed of their
- programs to the speed of the computer. At 50 Mhz the game is unplayable, the
- bogies have killed me before I even get a shot off. Fortunatly I can push a
- button to slow the machine down to 10 Mhz, WC is still pretty damn fast but
- it's playable. I've got other programs that are impossible at 10 Mhz. Come on
- people, for 10 years speeds have been doubling every 18 months. It's not
- unreasonable to expect action/reaction games to adjust themselves.
-
- This brings up a feature I'd like to see in OS/2: Select processor/speed.
- Wouldn't it be nice to open your Dos settings window, select an 8088 at 4 Mhz,
- and play one of your favorite games from 10 years ago on your 486/50? I don't
- care if it emulates the processor itself, I just want the speed of the
- combination emulated.
